Beginning with the founding of People to People International in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, our organization has remained dedicated to the mission of promoting world peace through increased understanding between the citizens of the world.
As President Eisenhower explained during the early days of People to People, “I like to believe that people, in the long run, are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of their way and let them have it.”
Over the past five decades, eight U.S. presidents have served as honorary chairman of People to People International. We look forward to enabling future classes of Student Ambassadors to continue the highest traditions of our program’s prestigious presidential history.
